The NHS Outcomes Framework – Measuring and publishing information on health outcomes helps drive improvements to the quality of care people receive. The White Paper: Liberating the NHS outlined the Coalition Government’s intention to shift the NHS from a focus on process targets to a focus on measuring health outcomes. As such, the NHS Outcomes Framework was developed in December 2010, following public consultation, and has been updated annually to ensure that it remains robust.
Indicators in the NHS Outcomes Framework are grouped into five Domains, which set out the high-level national outcomes that the NHS should be aiming to improve.
